Sherpa

So, I’m sure by  now you’ve figured out that I don’t post links to everything I wear on my main Insta page. Sometimes I’m wearing an oldie that is long gone from stores (I wouldn’t be able to link you even if I wanted to). And sometimes I’m being selfish and I want to keep it for myself. That’s what I did with these boots, but you guys pestered me enough that I decided to stop being selfish and share. Yes, they are amazingly comfortable! Also, the stroller you asked about. I love it but it’s not practical (no basket). It’s really a Target cock block. Speaking of Target, I know what you’re really eyeballing is my sherpa jacket in mint, and I was SO excited to share it with you. Why? It’s cheap, warm, and FABULOUS.

Here’s the link for my mint sherpa Jacket!

Labor Day White

If you’re like me and don’t mind breaking fashion rules I have a pair of pants for you! I plan on pairing them with chunky sweaters all fall and winter. They’d look great with a pair of black booties too. One more week till my kids start school and I’ll have a few more hours to work. A lot of you ask me how I do it all. Right now I have a sleeping baby in my arms while I put this post together. I spent the morning with him strapped to my chest in my Ergo while I stood at my hightop table and wrote a chapter for my next book (rocking side to side).  It’s definitely about mind over matter, acclimating to new situations, and being willing to work under and in any circumstances. How bad do you want it? Good. Do whatever you have to to get it. We’re women, we can if we really try. That’s our gift.

Knots and Studs

I did not list my Nike workout pants on the blog, though if you want truly comfortable pants with a built in pocket for your cell phone go check them out on the Nike website. I’d choose Nike over Lulu Lemon every time. I recently traded my Fitbit for a Fitbit HR and I LOVE it. Guys, did you know the Fitbit app keeps track of your period!? Oh, you did? Cool. I am always late to the party. Like I just binged watched all seven seasons of Gossip Girl. It was during the first six weeks of Avett’s life, but I became so obsessed that I’d have dreams where I was walking around telling people: “I’m Chuck Bass.” My other obsession: the Steven Madden sandals I linked you to. They’re on sale! Look at how happy I am that they’re on sale.

Last of Summer

Ohhhhh boy. Literally, I gave birth to one. And now that I’m done being pregnant I’m sort of ready to blog again. I can tell you that I’m not enthusiastic about buying clothes since I still have 30lbs to lose, but I am managing to find some outfits to disguise that fact. I’ve been living in dresses since I don’t have a single pair of jeans that fit me. I feel like I’m in a race with winter to lose weight so I can avoid buying new pants. And though I cringe when I look in the mirror I’m reminding myself that I’m human and reciting those famous words everyone keeps saying… “It’ll take time.” In the meantime I feel flabby. My thighs chaff when I walk and I have some wicked mom stripes on my belly (they only arrived after I had the baby, go figure). Honestly, I’m really enjoying motherhood in my thirties and though I think vain thoughts throughout the day I am quite content. Praise be!

What I am doing:

The worst thing one can do when attempting to be healthy mentally and physically is compare. Women have a knack for making themselves feel inadequate. Whether you’ve just had a baby or you’ve been struggling with your weight since you started eating solids the best way to feel good in your own skin is to focus on what you DO have going on. Strong legs, white teeth, bouncy hair, pretty toes, smooth skin, whatever. Those areas you want to improve; don’t let them control the way you feel. Instead of saying “I am failing” say: “I am working on it.”  And…well…work on it. Working on it feels good, working on it feels productive.

I’m working on feeling like myself again. Every day I either walk, or walk and interval run. I’ve been averaging four mile walks mostly with the baby strapped to my chest. I use the weighted hula hoop on top of that (30 minutes in the evenings). I’ve cut out carbs and I’ve been mainly sticking to protein, veggies and grains. I’ve only lost four pounds.

What I’ve failed at: alcohol. Face palm. I started my liquor fast yesterday. Man, I like to drink.

What I plan on doing: Orange Theory. I’m basically trying to get fit enough to get fit.

Anyway, here is a dress that made me feel sexy! It showed just enough boob and hid just enough belly fat.

Warm Things

I wasn’t in the market for a new coat, but something about those gold buttons and fur collar…
I listed my boots and a set of very affordable dupes! Same with the shirt. Josh and I just had FOUR days together. It was wonderful and I want to weep at the fact that he goes back to work tomorrow. It was so dreary in the PNW this weekend. Josh was depressed and I was in my element. Today, on our last day, we wandered around Ballard and found stocking stuffers for the kids. Really weird shit. They’re going to love it. Hope your weekend was wonderful!

Velvet Green

Ahhhh, I love this velvet duster/coat. Not only is the color stunning in person, its comfortable and warm (but not too warm). I got so many compliments while wearing it that I can’t wait to pair it with some other outfits. Links below.

Mean Green

Love this bright green, ruffle collar sweater. The collar was so cute I stepped out of my black comfort zone and actually wore color in public. Can you just picture wearing it with a messy bun? So cute. My grey overcoat is an oldie, so I listed some other options for you. And FYI I walked London all day (20,000 steps) wearing these UGG wedges. So comfortable.

Hey! It’s Thursday. I’m writing a book where the main character’s name is Thursday. Be happy, the weekend is almost here! This weekend Josh and I celebrate two years of being together. He has something planned but he hasn’t told me what. Someone tell him that I hate surprises. By the way, the book I just read is probably one of the best books I’ve ever read. It’s a hard thing for me to say that because of the subject matter. It’s not my favorite book of all time, but definitely one of the best I’ve ever read. Does that make sense? I hope you give it a shot but be prepared, it’s hard to read.

Capitol Hill

My forty dollar top shop dress, hell yes. It’s jersey material so has good stretch, and is flattering for women who have big boobs and small boobs. I am wearing a size 8 in the photo. Love that slit too. I plan on wearing it with my adidas soon.

Capitol Hill

Josh and I decided to spend an entire day wandering around Capitol Hill’s funky bar/bookstore/music scene. Why don’t I live there? I officially fell in love and CH is my new favorite place in Seattle. If you visit grab some drinks at one of the many colorful bars, who ALL display signs in their windows welcoming every type, color and gender of person. That’s the thing about Seattle, it’s all love and acceptance over here. Freedom of expression and land of artists. I love my home state so very much. Along with the many cool shops is my favorite bookstore: Elliot Bay Book Company, and the awesome Retrofit Home shop. Have Drinks and a corn dog at the weird Unicorn.  And Brunch!  Seattle has one heck of a brunch scene (London Plane is my favorite). Either way, you can’t go wrong on Capitol Hill. I’ll be seeing some of you soon for my Write or Die conference in Seattle this month! Can’t wait!

Outfit linked below. I bought my snake wrap bracelet at a little store in Port Townsend, this was the closet match I could find. And my Miranda bag is no longer made by Michael Kors, which is terribly sad because it’s my favorite bag of all time. I’ve been faithfully using it for five years now. However, you can still find this style on some second-hand sites like The Real Real.

OHMYGODICUTMYHAIR

And for the very first time I don’t regret it. It took me thirty two years to find the stylist of my dreams. Thank you, Shannon! She’s been cutting and blowdrying me for about three years now and there has never been a time when I leave her unhappy. I needed a change since I spent two years growing my hair out for the wedding. I was afraid to cut it because every time I’ve cut my hair I feel motherly. Like, I know I’m a mother but I don’t want to look like a mother. Ya know?! I have Peter Pan syndrome and in my heart I’m forever eighteen. Guys, if you’re ever in the area check out Shannon Wylie.

You can look her up on Instagram by: shannonwyliedesigns

Anyway, I found you a dupe pair of jeans for $60 and also listed my pair. And if you’re a slouchy t-shirt kind of girl this is my all time favorite tee. Washes well, doesn’t shrink, fits perfectly. And I am LOVING these Minkoff sneakers. So, usually I don ‘t like these laceless sneaker things. They sort of look lazy to me. Like, I’m a mom and I don’t have time for laces. But add silver grommets AND I LOVE THEM. LAZY SNEAKERISH  THINGS WITH EDGE! Yaaaas!
