Block That Color

Four years strong. That’s how long I’ve had my UGG waterproof boots. They were the first big thing I bought when I started selling books and moved to rainy Washington. Now I have all kinds of rain boots, but in general they’re a drag, even cute ones like Hunter. They’re kind of stiff, you know? If the zombie apocalypse hits while you’re wearing your Hunter boots you’re going to die. With the UGG boots you have the waterproof thing going on, they’re flexible and most importantly they’re extremely comfortable. Like a slipper. Imagine that. Of all the things in my closet, I love these most.

My black and white color block sweater is under sixty bucks! I did not link my fingerless gloves, and I know you guys are going to ask me about them. I bought them in London, and they’re covered in sharp weapon-like spikes. Josh is not a fan, but they keep him in line. Links below!

Free People SALE!

My friends, Free People is price matching! They can really break the bank with their snooty prices, but I’ve never had a problem with their quality. If you buy something from them you’re going to wear if for a couple of season. I wanted to hurry and post this sweater which is on SALE with the price match. It’s not a heavy wool sweater. It’s loosely knitted so you’ll need something underneath it if it’s very cold (I wore a white shirt). But, it’s also perfect for Fall and Spring since it is fairly light (and soft). Also, these boots are made for walking. I didn’t get to walk over anyone, but I think that if I did they would still be comfortable! All day comfort, and if you’re going to invest in over-the-knee boots why not get a color that pops? What? I’m not practical. And our Egg chair. It’s dreamy. All four of us read in that thing. I’m trying to convince Josh to put it in the bedroom until its warm again.

Home Plaid Home

Welcome to my home! I like dinosaur bones, and alligator book-ends, and at Christmastime I like all the plaid. EVERYTHING PLAID! I also like a really comfortable pair of wedges. These are probably my favorite pair, and I wear them most often. The fringe adds a little something to a plain outfit, but I know fringe isn’t for everyone. Remember, if you have shorter legs wearing a wedge with skinny jeans will give the illusion of length. Also, this cable knit sweater is something I wear once a week. This time I tucked in the front for a different look and i really liked it. Felt like something new.

Personal story: this week Ryder decided he wants to be a playwright. He’s been writing plays, practicing plays, and in general tormenting us with plays. I have to say, this is the strangest phase he’s ever gone through. At night he’s actually been crying himself to sleep over some internal play drama. I’m all like “SHUT UP ABOUT YOUR ART, RYDER! You don’t see me crying do you?” (he does). Anyway, I always thought Scarlet would be the angsty artists, but…

Kitten Heels & Red Coats

Hello, again. I’m back from London and tired as hell. One of the best trips I’ve ever taken. London is like a little Christmas dream this time of year. The pubs have garlands and lights in their windows, the shops go all out with their displays, and most important is the mulled wine which you can get anywhere and everywhere. But, let’s be honest, the real reason I had fun was because I was traveling with Josh, who likes to laugh, drink, and shop. It was a dreamy experience.

Did you kids get tons of homework over Thanksgiving break? Because we had so much homework! Anyway, I’m trying to play catch up. Also I drank so much on my holiday that I now look like a puffer fish. I am on a no-alcohol diet, and I haven’t touched dessert in three days. Detoxing. When I come back from trips like this one, or even after the holidays, I stick to a high protein diet of meats, cheese, and veggies while drinking as much water as I can. I typically see the vacation weight drop off pretty quickly that way. I also do about thirty to forty minutes of my weighted hula hoop a day. Anyway, I am wearing a Burberry trench, but I found some great affordable look-alikes for you. Happy Shopping.

Free the Skirts

 Hey there!

Happy Thanksgiving week. I am off to London today and very excited about it. My children visit their dad’s family in Indiana every Thanksgiving and so as not to be depressed…I leave the country. But, let’s be honest, England is my very favorite place in the world and I don’t care much for turkey- so, EXCITED!  My favorite time to go is around Christmastime. London has a very Harry Potter feel at Christmastime: street bazaars that sell mulled wine, the hustle and bustle of the city, red double-decker buses, very tall men wearing very beautiful clothes. You’d love it. Josh has never been and I’m so eager to share my favorite place with him. As for the outfit, I wore this on our anniversary. My Free People skirt is on MAD sale right now. It’s very soft and comfortable for those of you who are picky about skirts. And my cardigan comes in several colors. Talk when I get back! Have fun!

Denim Duster

I’m so draggy with these posts that they sold out of my duster before I could post. I found a similar one but it’s a bit more pricey. The good thing about this piece is that you can wear it as a dress, or open with tank under. So, find one somewhere and snatch it up. I’m all about the versatile pieces. Anyway, here it is.

Sweater Heaven

I wasn’t even going to do a post today, but I felt compelled to share this sweater with you. I stopped to pull it off the rack because of its unique rounded hemline. Most sweaters nowadays have the square boxy cut on the bottom so it was a fun change of sweater pace. Not to mention its thick and soft and I want to wear it every day forever. Anyway, have a fabulous weekend. We are taking the kids to see The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe at the Children’s Theater. I take them about once a month to see a play and since they loved the movie they begged to go to this one.

Burgundian

Those trees though! Guys, this month. I don’t even know what to say about it. On a positive note it’s a beautiful month, the reds, and oranges, and yellows. There have been vivid color explosions in my house. Mostly relating to Scarlet’s moods. You don’t name a child Scarlet and not expect some colorful moods, right? I always feel like such a failure when my children aren’t stable, predictable, obedient robots. I have to take a deep breath and remember that they are living, evolving, vividly colorful humans and I have to teach them how to control certain aspects of their personalities, while helping others to flourish and grow. It’s hard work, but we don’t give birth to humans to half ass their upbringing. Right? Right. So, cut yourself a break this week. Make sure they know they’re loved, and also that they know how to show love. And maybe buy yourself a burgundy sweater, because every time I wear burgundy I feel like a fall fairy.

Sweater Weather

Hey you!

I’m sweater shopping. My favorites for this season are all things green, and stars! I made a list of some of the sweaters I just purchased since I’m not sure if they’ll sell out before I get them and take my own photos. These are all under $80! Most of them are around the $30.00 range. Happy sweater weather, my people. Don’t forget to scroll right to see them all!

Winter Plaid

So, this week I was supposed to be cruising the Bahamas with my readers, but that nasty cuss, hurricane Matthew decided to tear through Florida, ruining our plans and sending the state into emergency preparation. Josh and I spent our day in Seattle tracking the storm and texting friends who were getting ready for the category four hurricane. Though missing the chance to hang out for four days with my readers makes me sad, the devastation many people will face puts things into perspective. I am thinking about and praying for all of you.

I traded my shorts and bikinis in for sweaters and boots. This doesn’t make me sad since we all know how I feel about summer shit. Happy Fall y’all! Josh and I are going to buy Christmas decorations tomorrow. Don’t judge me. He has the week off of work and OHMYGODILOVECHRISTMASSOMUCH!

Here’s my outfit. I love, love, love these pants by blogger Sincerely Jules. So flattering and comfortable. And my cardigan/coat speaks for itself. I never want to take it off it’s so soft.
